Region H Explores Support Options

First responders and other emergency service providers in NW Missouri got a boost on May 16 in a first meeting of supervisors and trauma support agencies. Cameron hosted the event which was funded by a grant from SEMA and attended by 75.

Participants from law enforcement, mental health, coaching, emergency medical services, chaplaincy, fire, 911 dispatchers and coordinators, corrections, and the Mo-Kan Regional Council heard presentations on Psychological First Aid, Critical Incident Stress Management, and first person stories. They then took part in task groups. Using their emergency service skill sets and focusing what was clearly a great deal of compassion and competence for what they do, participants worked smartly and quickly to gather information and to brainstorm about possibilities.

As a result, several teams have been formed and will begin work to develop models for support that can be tried and evaluated throughout the region.

Hats off to you! You did well. We are off to a great start.
